Adventure and sustainable tourism are some of Costa Rica’s major attractions.

SAN JOSÉ – Between January and June, Costa Rica was visited by 1,285.599 tourists, a number exceeding the same period last year by 90,000 people, the Costa Rica Tourism Institute (ICT) announced Wednesday.

For that period, the number of visitors is up 7.4 percent from last year.

According to the report, visitors who arrived on airplanes accounted for nearly 850,000 people, most of them from the United States and Canada.

Tourism is the main draw of foreign currency in Costa Rica, raising an average of $2,000 million each year.
